History

The History of the Boat history-pic

The vessel is a ‘Dutch Barge’, built around 1980. It was originally fitted out as a sailing barge and later an inboard engine was built-in. The masts and other sailing gear were then removed. The boat was brought over to the UK in 1986 and was converted from a cargo carrier to a floating restaurant in Great Yarmouth.

The boat was moved from Great Yarmouth to its current location in Norwich in the early 1990’s, originally serving traditional British food and then Chinese food up until 2006. The restaurant was finally taken over, and remains as it is today under the name ‘Thai on the River’.

Although keeping with the ‘Thai on the River’ brand, the restaurant was subject to a new management structure in 2013. This has seen a new takeaway service implemented and a new modern fusion menu which was launched in July 2014.
